April 2018

Happy Spring! I can't believe it's April already. So much has been happening behind the scenes in composer-land -- including this brand new website! -- and I'm very excited to share all the excitement with the world. Here are a few highlights for now:

In early March, I had the pleasure of working with three bands at Spring Lake Park High School in Minnesota. Despite some weather-related setbacks, the workshops and concert were very successful and memorable for all involved. The students were so receptive to the way I challenged them from the podium, and we had some truly insightful and inspiring discussions. Thanks to Nora Tycast and Brian Lukkasson for coordinating the visit and for being so committed to their vision of a diverse music program.

Speaking of diversity, the Southwest Washington Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Patrick Murphy, performed Chasing Sunlight on their concert "Women of Note" featuring an entire program of female composers. I was also featured in this article about their concert! While we still have a long way to go, I'm happy to know that more ensembles are hopping on the diversity bandwagon and I'm proud to be included in such programs.
